Note: This purchase includes the usage rights for the digital files, allowing you to print the clips yourself. If you'd like Flash The Neighbors to print them for you, please contact us. Every project is different so it's hard to have a flat price that works for everyone but you can plan on roughly $2/foot for printed clips, including U.S. shipping.
DESCRIPTION
This is a system of snap together clips used to align seed pixels, both vertically and horizontally. There are 2 types of clip included (Strand Clips and Matrix Alignment Clips) and 2 sizes of each type included, to accomodate both thin wire (24-26ga) and thicker/XL wire (20-22ga). The snap together connections are the same between types, letting you build whatever works best for you.
Each clip has a 3mm hole in it, allowing it to be screwed to a frame. I used these screws. The clips are also shaped to allow a zip tie to be used without sliding around.
The clips have been tested with seeds from both a typical foreign vendor as well as the thicker wire seeds from Visionary Light Shows but please note that we can not guarantee compatibility with every strand out there. If you run into an issue after purchase, please let us know.
Both sizes and both types are included in the download.
CLIP TYPES
- Strand Clips are used inline to keep a strand of seed pixels straight. These would most typically be used in an application such as window outlines but could also come in handy in places where the seeds are 'strung' a short distance with no real support (such as between our Roofline Bulbs or Candy Corn props).
- Matrix Alignment Clips are used to maintain proper spacing between strings of seeds when creating a seed pixel matrix. These clips can be mounted to a backboard or frame but are also light enough to be used mid-string to maintain spacing. The pictures show a 9'x6' 8000 pixel matrix built on a 1/2" PVC frame using Matrix Alignment clips to both secure the pixels as well as maintain spacing between the PVC ribs. No vertical alignment clips were used on this matrix (yet đ).
INCLUDED FILES
2 sets of files are included for each type of clip (1 set for each size)
- 1x files have hooks spaced 1" apart so every pixel can be secured
* Great for horizontal runs to keep the string from sagging
* Matrix Alignment clips are only supplied in 1x as you can easily skip over unnecessary hooks
- 2x files have hooks spaced 2" apart with a blank filler between hooks
- 3x files have hooks spaced 3" apart with 2" of blank fillter between hooks
* These are great for vertical runs since not every pixel needs securing
- Connectors are used for corners, intersections, and mid-point branch-offs
- 3mm Boosters
* Used when you need a height adjustment mid string, such as where PVC pipe enters the PVC coupler
* Boosters are stackable
HOW TO USE
Just figure out how many inches the frame needs to be. Hooks on the modular clips are spaced 1" (technically 25.4mm) apart so you can easily design and figure out which sizes are needed. Typically, you'll want to use the longest piece possible to minimize the number of joints but the clips snap together reasonably secure and can be glued together, if necessary. Once you've printed the necessary parts, just snap them together and then run your pixels, securing the wires under as many hooks as necessary to maintain a straight line. You can typically secure every 4" or so, unless your pixels are particularly wavy.
No special print settings should be required but here's what I used:
