Star Add-Ons for "Stars and Stripes" from Charlees Props
Product Details

These are star shapes to be used with the 'Stars and Stripes' prop created by Charlees Props. There are 2 variants of star shape included, one that shows the pixels through the star and one that completely covers the star.

Multiple files are included with the download. The 'Project' files are Prusa Slicer 3MF projects that can be directly imported.

  • Star - Center Alignment Guide: If you've already pushed your pixels, use this guide to align the center hole. Push a small screwdriver, awl, or center punch through the hole to puncture the coro.
  • Star - Center Alignment Punch: If you haven't yet pushed your pixels, this punch fits into the pixel holes and has a point that will puncture the coro in the correct spot. Note that it's relatively thin and has the potential to crack but it gets the job done. I printed 2, just in case, but only needed one for all 50 holes.
  • Star - Full Pixel Cap: This is a full cap that fits over the 5 pixels. It provides a nice soft effect for the star pixels and also backlights the coro around the stars a bit, giving it a soft blue color (if you painted it blue).
  • Star - Visible Pixels: This is a star shape with cutouts for the 5 pixels so the pixels still show through. If you want the sharp effects provided by each individual pixel in the star shapes, this is the model for you.

No special print settings should be required but here's what we use:

  • Rafts: No
  • Supports: No
  • Resolution: 0.15
  • Infill: 15% (I did add a modifier to infill the center prong on the stars at 100%)
  • Filament brand: Any (I used Sunlu Elite)
  • Filament color: White (something semi translucent will work better than a matte white)
  • Filament material: PETG

The stars have a center prong that fits into the hole created with the guide/punch. I found that it was helpful to use a small awl to slightly widen the hole just before seating the star, then push the center of the star to engage the prong into the center hole. The coro will bounce back slightly, which should hold the star relatively tightly. You could also put a drop of super glue in the hole just before seating the star, but I didn't go that far (yet 🤞).

You can see how effects look on both types of stars in the video below:
