2024-08-26 - v2 Update! After a bunch of testing, I wasn't happy with the v1 of this project so I've enhanced the design by making it significantly thicker as well as smoothing the top so the layers are almost even. Unfortunately, this means you need a multi color printer to print it as there isn't enough room for color by layer. The tradeoff is worth it as the new skull is much more robust and just better looking all around.
This is a 20 pixel topper designed to go on top of the included 5 pixel stick for a total of 25 pixels. Print in 2 colors for maximum effect!
Multiple files are included with the download:
No special print settings should be required but here's what we use:
The topper is secured to the stick by 2 pixels and 2 or 3 zip ties. I prefer to mount the sticks using these garden stakes but you can also use a screw in spike available at the link below.
The pixel stick was originally designed by Chuck Ackerman and is available here, where you can download the full suite of files. The included pixel stick STL is a slightly modified design to shorten it, so it could be printed on my Prusa printer, and also a modification to the pixel holes so the pixels 'snap in' better. Note that the holes on the topper's mounting tab will likely not line up properly with the holes on Chuck's original designs so you may have to drill the mounting tab out to allow the pixel to go through it, if you use Chuck's original design.
