Bulb Pixel Stick Topper
Product Details

This is a 20 pixel topper designed to go on top of the included 5 pixel stick for a total of 25 pixels. Print in 3 colors for maximum effect!

Supported Pixels:

- Bullet pixels with at least 2" spacing
- Seed pixels with at least 2" spacing using seed pixel adapters

Multiple files are included with the download:

  • STL - Use this for quick and easy printing.
  • 3MF - This file type provides more info and allows you to manipulate the different parts of the body, in case you want to scale the height. Note, do not scale the X/Y or you will mess up the pixel holes. Also note, after modifying the individual parts, you need to export/reopen it as a single STL (or use an application to combine the parts) or it will be sliced as a bunch of individual parts (though, very close together) instead of one solid piece, and it will fall apart when complete. Ask how I found this out. 🤦‍♂️
  • 3 Color - Single Extruder - 3MF - Prusa - The same 3MF file exported as a PrusaSlicer project, already rotated and with layered colors added.
  • 5 Color - MMU3 - 3MF - This is an export from PrusaSlicer using an MMU3 to allow multiple colors on the same layer. I've only tested this on my own Prusa printer so your mileage may vary. Note that this is still basically printed in layers, just using the MMU3 to apply different colors on the same layer. If you set up the colors to do any further than the top layer(s), the slicer breaks up the infill oddly and makes the model much weaker. Coloring only the top layers allows the infill to fully connect for the first 5mm or so, which makes the model much stronger. I went through multiple versions of this using different infills, different infill percentages, different color patterns, and different perimeter/layer counts and this one seems to be the best bang for the buck, with both decent strength and good print time. Feel free to experiment!
  • xModel - xLights model import file

No special print settings should be required but here's what we use:

  • Rafts: No
  • Supports: No
  • Resolution: 0.2
  • Infill: 15% (Gyroid, if using transparent filament)
  • Filament brand: Overture Transparent Red/Blue/Green for the bulb / Overture Yellow and Gold for the base
  • Filament color: Multiple
    • For multi color printing, set your slicer to switch colors at 6.2mm and 7.2mm
  • Filament material: PETG

The topper is secured to the stick by 2 pixels and 2 zip ties. I prefer to mount the stakes using these garden stakes but you can also use a screw in spike available at the link below.

The pixel stick was originally designed by Chuck Ackerman and is available here, where you can download the full suite of files. The included pixel stick STL is a slightly modified design to shorten it, so it could be printed on my Prusa printer, and also a modification to the pixel holes so the pixels 'snap in' better. Note that the holes on the topper's mounting tab will likely not line up properly with the holes on Chuck's original designs so you may have to drill the mounting tab out to allow the pixel to go through it, if you use Chuck's original design.
